Late night musings...

Something got me thinking about A-Frame cabins late last night and I dug up some cool mid-century promotional designs.  Even though these buildings are pretty unpopular, even scoffed at today, I totally get their appeal.

Happy Friday!

I have to do a repost today from 100 Layer Cake and the "Hollywood Glamour" themed bridal shoot they did!  It is SO my personal style, as in classic silver screen starlet!  Elements I'm loving: perfectly arched eyebrows, birdcage veils, and the fox fur wraps!  Enjoy!

Vintage Wedding Gowns

Today on 100 Layer Cake, their featured bride has the most gorgeous vintage wedding dress and she paid, get this, $12 for it at a vintage warehouse!  Unbelievable!   I just had to post some picture because she is so cute (& so are her bridesmaids!).  The fabric of her dress is an embroidered cotton voile, which for whatever reason they hardly make anymore.  If I could get my hands on some I would for sure design it into the vintage warehouse!  Unbelievable!   I just had to post some picture because she is so cute (& so are her bridesmaids!).  The fabric of her dress is an embroidered cotton voile, which for whatever reason they hardly make anymore.  If I could get my hands on some I would for sure design it into the Laura Whitney Couture collection!

Happy Friday! + BHLDN Fall preview

This popped up an many major wedding blogs yesterday!  BHLDN had an insider launch party for the release of their Fall 2011 collection (for sale next month) and I've scoured the web to bring you the best photos from it!  Their new collection features a lot more evening gowns, party dresses and accessories, many with a 1920's Boardwalk Empire vibe.  The frequent and heavy use of feathers also solidifies the feather trend that's been much talked about but little seen until now. We still see black accents, blush and champagne are also still going strong but they've also introduced some muddy autumn tones that give a more authentic vintage feel.  All and all a beautiful collection!

My only criticism, that wrap is really similar to a famous Valentino design!

Happy Friday!

Ah!  Nothing puts a spring in your step like wearing a new dress!  Especially when it's a cute vintage dress you picked up for a buck fiddy!   I seriously love the thrift stores up here!   This was my best attempt at photographing it, kinda rough but you get the idea.  But yeah it's a cool dress because it looks kinda 1950's but it's actually from the early 80's so it's made out of jersey and is way comfortable.  Once I removed the shoulder pads that is!  Anyways, I'm off to a friends cabin this evening!  Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Sunday Edition - Laura Whitney Couture Update!

Good afternoon all!  It has been a while since I last posted and I thought I'd give you an update on what's happening with the new line.

I have been sooo busy with orders lately but I think the whirlwind is ending... or at least I'm in the eye of the storm!   It's calm for a moment, allowing me to catch my breath and also to do some much anticipated new design work!   I'm also very excited to announce that we have a date set for our big photo shoot (August 14th!) as well as a very talented team including our photographer, Ali, our lead hair & make-up artist Irma and her assistants, and two beautiful local models, Sandra & Amy!   I soooo want to spill the beans about every detail but I can't!  So sorry but no sneak peek pictures today of any of that.

Okay and lastly one thing I made time for today was to buy a new sofa finally!  Yay!  I'm saying goodbye to our trusty old antique sofa and in doing so connected with another Twin Cities wedding business, On Solid Ground Vintage Rentals, run by husband and wife team Sarah & Kyle Dreher.  I'd often been wondering why Minneapolis didn't have a rental company specializing in vintage goodies and I'm delighted that someone has started one up!   Hopefully my Victorian sofa will make the perfect addition to Sarah's curated collection of aged accessories, furniture, photo props, & oh-so-lovely china. You can see some of her artfully arranged items below (psst!  She also offers styling services!) and see the full post here of this photo shoot by  photographer Dani Stephenson.

Vintage Album Cover Art!

So while I was visiting my parents this weekend I was digging through their records and found a cool Parisian one that I loved!  While digging around this internet for a digital download of the album I came across a really cool blog called Hooked on Stereophonics!  In addition to great vintage record reviews I had a blast looking at all the awesome, and sometimes very kitschy, cover art!  Here are a few of my favorites!

The Ultimate Wedding Accessory: A Classic Car!

The hubby and I are having car troubles this week which isn't at all fun.  Our car might be going to that big junk yard in the sky and that really makes me wish it was summer and we could cruise around in our super cute 1963 Mercury Comet instead of trying to brave the winter roads in our clunker.  I'm so excited to use the Comet this summer and can't wait to do a little photo shoot with it, which brings me to the subject of classic cars in wedding photos.  I think a vintage or classic car is the best photo prop around!  No matter what era the car is from, there is just something romantic about older cars that you can't get with even a modern luxury car.  With that in mind I'd thought I'd post some of my favorite wedding photos with classic cars in them!

Vintage Vogue Covers

Just for funzies I thought I post some of what I consider the most fabulous of vintage Vogue magazine covers from the 1950's & 60's!  Besides just looking at the fashion and make-up, notice how clean and uncluttered they are, not at all like the covers today.  The photography was really allowed to speak for itself.  Enjoy!

OMG!  Check out her claw-like fingernails!  Ha ha! This one is from 1955, btw.
