Workwear Wednesday

I've decided that I'm going to start doing a weekly feature every Wednesday on the stylish working girls wardrobe.  This is brought on by the fact that, since I work for myself AND work from home my professional wardrobe has become almost non-existent.  It's not that I meet clients in sweat pants or anything like that, but I've realized that over the past two years my biz-casual garb has dwindled down to two button-down shirts, a tunic, & my skinny jeans.  I don't even own a single pair of slacks anymore!   And it's SOOO easy to just throw on something cozy on the days I don't have any meetings.  But here's the problem: those uber cozy clothes make me way less productive.  As an experiment to evaluate my own productivity and time management I decided that I'd dress as though I was going into an office for one week (this also meant I wasn't allowed to go around in stocking feet all day).  The results?  I was much more productive and my head stayed focused on work all day!  It's also much harder to curl up on the sofa in heels.  But I had a really hard time even finding office-worthy outfits in my closet so now I'm on the hunt for stylish workwear pieces to add to my wardrobe!  They must be casual and comfortable for working from home but professional enough for a business lunch out. Oh, & I want to be able to wear jeans any time I want!  It's going to be a balancing act I think.

Stylish, but too formal for me.
Ah!  Perfect!
I actually own a skirt very similar to this but haven't know whow to wear it!

Weekend Accomplishment

When we moved into our new place I was so excited to have a large room to be my dedicated office and work studio!  But duty called and I had to make it functional as quickly as possible, neglecting the decor project I had been dreaming about for so long.  Well this weekend I actually made some headway in the studio!  I sewed the turquoise and orange drapes myself and am so amazed at how they transformed the room that now I find myself looking at every other bare window in the house.   The transformation is not finished yet but it's a vast improvement!   The room still lacks artwork and I still have the whole lighting issue to deal with; I'm in constant search of my perfect wall sconces and (dare I dream?) a chandelier.  But until then I'm still quite please with the weekend transformation from scary office to pretty studio!

My signature colors are turquoise and orange of course!

Office Envy

As most of you know almost 1 month ago we moved into a fantastic new place which finally provided me with my own unshared and quite spacious work space.  I was lucky that our move took place during a lull in business activity but ever since then I have been kept extremely busy, swamped even!   My workroom/office is set up enough to be functional but I've had no time at all to give it personality or even improve the lighting (which is really starting to bug me!)  The window & walls are bare and things are organized only enough to to get by without going totally nuts.  So now more than ever when I see great offices and work studios I get super envious!  Be low is a sampling of my current office crushes.

I'm Back! ...sort of.

Whew!  It's been crazy the last several days!  We got all moved into our new home, a first floor victorian duplex with twice the square footage!  With all this room you'd think I'd be able to find a place for everything, but alas there are still several boxes to be unpacked.  But I'm back now and I'll try to be more diligent about daily blog posts!  Through it all, I've been working to meet deadlines on wedding orders while still not having my studio/office/workroom completely set up.  Yesterday I got a totally fab new desk & chair so no more sharing with the hubby!  Now I'm on a quest for stylin' new wall sconces to replace the ugly ones flanking my new desk.  The old ones make me want to puke (to sound like a teenager!) and are fake yellow brass with an etched glass grandma-like shade.  You'd probably know them because they're in practically every rental unit. Blerg!

But I digress.  I really wanted to share a beautiful wedding from 100 Layer Cake!  It's a California outdoor wedding and they balanced the formality of a wedding with the casualty of the outdoors so perfectly!  For more photos and to see the original post, click here.
